About Us

Whatever their past or present circumstances, we believe every young person deserves the chance to create a brighter future for themselves, their families and their communities.

WE’RE ON A MISSION

With children and young people at the heart of all we do, we support them, their caregivers and communities, and work to break cycles of disadvantage, trauma and injustice.

WHO ARE WE?

Pursuit International is a community of people who believe that in a world of plenty, poverty should not exist. We’re on a mission to change that – one young person at a time.

Together the Pursuit team, supporters, local partners and those we support are pursuing a world where everyone has the opportunity to change their circumstances and create a brighter future for themselves, their families, their communities and beyond.

What do we do?

We work to ensure that poverty is never a reason for a child to be separated from their family, and that every young person has a safe and loving environment where they’re able to thrive.

Our focus is on these four areas:

Prevention

Resourcing and equipping families in poverty to care for their children at home.

Early intervention

Provide early intervention for vulnerable children and young-people, who could be at risk of going into care.

Alternative care

Ensure children and young people who are unable to be cared for by biological parents, remain within family-type settings by supporting alternative carers such as kinship carers (grandparents, aunts, uncles) and foster carers.

Residential care

Ensure that residential care homes, where necessary, provide the highest level of care possible.
Provide transitional support for young people coming out of residential care settings at 18 yrs.

HOW WE DO IT

Our work always centres on the children and young people we are working with. But we believe lasting change comes when communities are able to support each other, and so we work to resource and equip care-givers within loving communities.

We work with local partners in the field, helping them to increase their impact and also identify new opportunities to support vulnerable young people. We believe in using local skills and expertise, and pooling our resources, because things work best when we all work together.

WHERE IT ALL STARTED

Jané grew up in a slum community, but his life was changed through the work of local projects. Having experienced first-hand the impact that can be brought about by local people working to solve local issues, Jané began to realise that the key thing that held people living in poverty back wasn’t a lack of skill or ability; it was simply a lack of opportunity.

So, with his wife Naomi – who shared this passion for community transformation following her time working in Kolkata – the vision for Pursuit International was born: a movement of people working together to create a world where a person’s circumstances do not determine their opportunities.
